Alex Lehmann on perfect location, Sarah Paulson's initial fear of improv

The director talks about how he got the opportunity to make "Blue Jay" after becoming friends with Mark Duplass as a camera operator on "The League," how his camera skills gave Duplass and Sarah Paulson the freedom to be loose in their performances, even though Paulson was improvising for her first feature, finding Crestline, California as a locale, and how making a documentary "Asperger's Are Us" just before influence how he made the film:

She came off more and more natural as the film went on. Very surprised there was any improvising at all.
