This Show Is Fresh, Funny and Different

There's been a number of new comedies this year, but I think this might be the best one so far.

Celebrities playing exaggerated versions of themselves is overdone nowadays. Entourage did it for 8 years with guest stars and Episodes and Don't Trust the B have done it for full seasons with Matt LeBlanc and James van der Beek, but Sean Bean in this role works. He's a nerd icon and him being Morpheus' conscience/spirit guide makes perfect sense.

Episode 1 - From the cutaways to the music this just had a different vibe to it. I like that they're focusing more on the two sidekicks of the group and their "will they or won't they" dynamic than Kent and Sarah.

Episode 2 - The image of droppings being splattered by a fan has to be everyone's nightmare. There's been better "journey" episodes, but this was a good one too.

Episode 3 - Not spectacular, because I thought it was too unrealistic. Alistair would not continue to take insults like that non-stop and think Kent was joking.

Good show overall though. Finally something a little different on TV.

Episode 3 just wasn't as funny as the 1, 2 and 4.

I don't give a f*@K about a troll who doesn't pay for his opinion telling me how to review movies.

I just finished the 4th episode. It was definitely weird, but that scene after they took the tampon poison alcohol had me lol'ing. This is never going to be Frasier style comedy, but it's appealing in its own way.

Episode 4 more than made up for episode 3.

I love the show, Love the soundtrack love the characters BUT

its been done before this has Simon Peggs Jizz all over it

reply

It's only 'fresh' if you've never watched Spaced or anything Edgar Wright ever did.

Plus pointless swearing does not make anything 'edgy'.

Thankfully being stateside I haven't. 😀

Not a big Simon Pegg fan at all. That comment was more about this compared in general to the kind of shows we get these days about the annoying family. Clearly, this isn't the first show about slackers or weedheads ever, but it's still a break in style from most comedies right now.

Now, this last episode was about as cliched a premise as they come with Morpheus hanging out with his friend's mom. Still had some funny parts, but definitely generic. Sadly, only a small bit of Sean Bean/"Ned Stark" too.

No, its direct rip-off from "Clerks" and "Spaced", poor trying to do "next-gen", but with totally lack of originality. This just mix all modern popular and all classic elements from previous "nerd"-fiction and - BOSCH - totally WASTED all over a face of fanboys "Game of throne" and monocellular series-junky. And, yes. they 20-something, but script for 30-something, and... well if Jon Foster & James Lamont - dont know new generation, than just did not do it, cose its all lie and fake explo with tons of copypasta.
And bobcobb301, you just dont have a taste.

If the closest comparison is two things from the 90's, I would say in 2016 that qualifies as original.

reply

No. For original need to do something original. And if you say "2016", okay, but why than jokes about Lando Calrissian in first ep, and map from Mario-2 in second? Its soooo "original"
Even in Spaced you can see jokes about Star Wars sequel trilogy, and in "Clerks-2" - joking about "Lotr". B-cos its _actual_.
In this Wasted abomination they can joke about indie-games (even pixel! if they want), about new star wars etc, but - no! writers so lazy and stupid to do something _original_.
And, yes, can you tell what connection between 20-something year old and Mario-2? Its rhetorical question, cose there no connection at all, just laziness of 30-something years writers who do not know they audience.

reply

I'm 27 and I know what Mario is. I actually still had my Super Nintendo with me in college (I didn't get invited to a lot of parties.)

People of that age like to look back at the good old days.

reply

You play in snes Mario since 1 years old? You really a geek, i must say.
