Call me a bastard

Call me a bastard for getting excited about a new Polanski film I can't help it. He's a brilliant filmmaker.

reply

No need to be ashamed; he's still one of the great modern filmmakers. I'm sorry some people can't separate art from the artist.  I definitely don't condone his crime, but it ultimately has nothing to do with his work. When he starts making films that glorify rape, THEN I'll start taking issue with him. 

He didn't know the girl was 14 so you cant blame him at all.

Well, rape is rape, so you CAN. Still, "Repulsion," "Chinatown," and "The Pianist" are among my very favorite films (and, next to Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon," "Tess" is my favorite costume drama).

reply

How on earth could you? He had no idea.

He had no idea he was committing rape?? 

reply

Obviously not if he didn't know the girl was 14.

Explain to me how knowingly screwing someone against their consent doesn't qualify as knowingly committing rape (the fact she was a minor only adds the word 'statutory' in front of it). 

reply

I wasn't agaisnt their consent, she consented.
