The Emmy's started at 5:00 in Arizona. A little early. Too early as I saw the last 30 minutes.

It's for the East coast audience. Starts at 8pm there. If you watch tv at all, they have been annoincing the start time for a while, so the start time should not have been a surprise. And at least in LA it is repeated immediately afterward.
