Why did Wyatt (Huge spoilers)

Get passed over in the end with no college offers for him to play d1?

It baffles me, from the show he seemed like a much much better quarterback throughout the season. Better passer and more precise/consistent plays.

The fact that John, who seemed to have far more of a rocky start with his fumbling/over-throwing got a shot straight to Auburn and potentially as the starting QB.

Can someone explain this? I'm not a huge football fan (but I do enjoy watching shows like this and the 30 for 30 things) so maybe I'm missing something.

Just seemed really really stupid that he got passed over while the other players that didn't seem to do as good as he did got good offers.

He was passed over by the D1 schools because his arm wasn't strong enough. It was good for the offense they ran, short passing and letting the backs make a move and get free to run, but he didn't have the arm to go down field. They never really came out and out right said it on the show, but the coaches when interviewed about both QB's did allude to the fact that Wyatt didn't have the downfield arm and John had the cannon to get the ball down field, but that wasn't their offense.

And the reason why John was picked up by Auburn almost without a second thought by them is that John was already a top recruit who was at a top school. He didn't get kicked out or mess up up in any way, he was still a valued commodity. The only reason why he was at the CC is because of NCAA rules he could not transfer straight to Auburn without losing a year of eligibility.

I was disappointed Wyatt didn't take the D2 offer.

He ended up walking on at Mississippi State. He wont play, but he will run scout team and learn to be a coach.

It's edited because I cant spell.

He really doesn't have the size or the speed to play FBS football. Some Quarterbacks are "system" Quarterbacks. Wyatt was perfect for that offense, but he wouldn't fit in with a lot of FBS offenses.

John is a dual threat QB who has the speed and the arm strength to succeed at a high level. John doesn't have great "touch" and wasn't a great fit for that offense. They weren't going to just let John go in there and let his legs take over the game. Wyatt also had an extra year to learn the offense as a back up, which gave him another edge over John.

He's obviously a hard worker and great kid that should have never been in a QB battle with someone as talented as John. Kudos to him for sticking with the school and earning most of the snaps.

John is a narcissistic child who didn't have the talent or discipline to start at a JC which says loads about his work ethic or better lack of one. Obviously he was given everything with no effort and is a user with the no moral compass regarding other people, and so a perfect fit for an SEC college especially one that won the cam Newton auction

I just didn't care for John's arrogance. He was constantly critical of the program. Then ran his mouth once Auburn gave him an offer. Hope he either gets injured so hes out his first season or he gets benched because he gets beat out by a better quarterback.

If he didn't start at EMCC, he won't start at Auburn...... At least not at QB.

reply

I wouldn't be so sure. He may be their starting qb this year.

I didn't find John to be overly arrogant, keep in mind he was at FSU the year before. I actually liked him a lot and he has huge potential. Btw wishing injury on someone is pretty immature.

Every qb is damn near like that in the locker room. Unless you are a huge Andy Dalton fan you will find that most qbs are crazy confident.

JF was ignorant but he did go to FSU, probably should have stayed even though he would have never beat Winston. He is hoping to go Cam Netwon route, Cam said yes to Gators but I believe Tebow was there so he went to CC then Auburn.

Cam got paid. And MSU was in on a scheme with him too. The Boogs won out.

Wyatt was my favorite character. I guarantee he will have his pick of women to marry. Good looking, down home country boy with a really deep distinct southern accent. If he plays the guitar, he should take up singing.

As for football, one of the main reasons he did not go D1 is because most D1 colleges who recruit JUCOs are looking for a guy that can come in and start right away, because they only have 2 years of eligibity left. D1 schools are not going to take JUCO players that will be backups. The backups are spots meant for younger players that are being developed.

It was probably apparent that there were not any D1 schools out there that saw Wyatt Roberts as a starting QB, so they weren't going to offer him to simply be a backup for 2 years. He made the right decision to hang it up and go to Miss State. He'll have a good time there.

Thought I read he was walking on there so he can still at least experience it.

Wyatt is now a walk-on at Mississippi State. Coach Dan Mullen personally sought him out after he lost one of his QB's. Source: http://www.espn.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/114280/qa-east-mississippi-c-c-assistant-clint-trickett-talks-last-chance-u.

I also looked him up online the other day and saw that he's only like 6ft and 190. That is pretty small for a Div1 QB, especially in a major conference. John is small too but he's a natural athlete which helps make up for that. Wyatt wasn't.

Franklin fits Auburn's system perfectly. He is a dual threat QB who is extremely athletic and can throw the ball down the field. Very similar to Nick Marshall who was their QB when they when they lost to FSU in the National Championship game a few years ago. Marshall was maybe the best zone read QB I have ever seen. He was not an accurate passer and switched to DB trying to make an NFL roster. Franklin is now a backup at Auburn to sean White. Franklin is a great runner and scrambler but White is a far better passer and understands the offense more.
Franklin is a tough guy to like after watching this show. Wyatt is easy to root for.
