Running up the score

If the NJCAA didn't go by a point spread system (kinda like the old BCS system where winning big helped) then maybe he doesn't try to run the score up ruffling feathers in the process.

Personally I don't care especially in the pros. It's your job to stop the other team from scoring. Yeah in high school and lower you want to show good sportsmanship and not embarrass your opponent. I guess may he should have just ran the ball the rest of the game.

I'm like you when it comes to college and above on running up the score, and I hate to hear people whining about such. However, in the Ms. junior college football Ms. Delta & Coahoma are basically high school teams. It probably took all the restraint in the world for East Miss. to only beat Coahoma 69-0. I could see why East Miss wanted to run up the score on MS Delta, especially after what they did to the equipment manager.

The refs sucked that game they didn't control a thing. They could have made things easier for everyone. They should have ejected the players who did that to the staffer and told their coach any personal fouls would end up as ejections for their team because what they did should have gotten them arrested. It should have been like a team warning like in baseball and the next personal foul would be an ejection. The game hadn't even started and they were acting like maniacs. I know the NFL just implemented the 2 personal foul and you are ejected rule but if there ever was a time for it, it was that game.

Daz I agree a 100%. It's worse when you take in the account that the coach told the refs multiple times that team was going to try to hurt his players. The first time I viewed the fight I thought that East Miss just wanted to fight. I rewatched it and you can clearly see about 3 players jumping #1 on East Miss and the refs weren't doing crap about it. I don't condone fighting but if a teammate is getting jumped it needs to be broken up.

reply

I wished #1 would have shown some composure and not slapped the guy who speared him with that late hit. For one he was in enemy territory so any aggression by him was going to be met by their whole sideline. Had he been on his sideline it might have been a slightly different outcome. But his slap was all the other team needed to "justify" fighting since that's all that team wanted to do when they woke up that morning, they had no interest in playing football. BUT when your team is continually getting cheap shotted the whole game there is only so much someone can take.

Dracarys!!

Absolutely agree with this.

reply

Yes! Totally agree with this!

DJ Law nailed it when he said 'this is coming from the same mofo who got kicked out for hitting a referee two weeks ago. He can do it but when we do it we are rednecks and thugs...'

Amen - I've been watching this shifty coach say one thing and give these kids the worst example possible.

I wish Coach Mark Richt would coach these kids...they need him more than they need Buddy Dumbass Stephens

reply

Those kids were rednecks, punks and thugs as they proved in that game and by their behavior. Typical of today's athletes unfortunately

reply

They were already letting the clock run, so I'm not sure what else could have been done short of forfeiting the 2nd half of the game.

If your team is going to talk trash and one of your players was going to sucker punch a team manager then you deserve to get beat by 100 imo. The coaches obviously weren't controlling their players, not nearly as much as Buddy was trying to control his. The Ref's were letting the play get to chippy and they weren't doing their jobs.

If anyone deserved to be punished by the NCAA for their actions it was them. In sports it is the one hypocritical thing that totally frustrates me on a weekly basis. We expect our players and coaches to act and perform in a certain way and we hold them accountable when they don't. We fine them, suspend them, drop them or fire them when the don't meet some of our expectations, on or off the field. Yet, we let some of the least prepared and ill equipped people on the planet judge the rules and govern the play of our multi billion dollar industry (doesn't matter which sport you watch, they are all like this).

AND we don't EVER hold them accountable. Not once have we ever made a ref stand up in front of a camera and explain why he made a certain ruling. If we better equipped our officials and referees with better training and held them accountable for their actions it would single handedly fix 75% of whats wrong with sports (in between the lines that is). It certainly would've helped them to deal with this situation much professionally and probably would've prevented an unjust situation.

I am fine with running up the score, player better and harder if you are mad about the score. The CC athletes are not very mature though, they are on the level of a 10-16 year old so they get their feelings/ego bashed and have no clue how to handle it.

The JC national championship game is a subjective math-up. There are JCs in california where I live that claim the national championship as there are in Kansas, Mississippi, Texas and other areas of the country. It's voted on by media members. What would be great is if they had a playoff like the FCS (old Division 1-AA) so the teams from different areas of the country can compare themselves. Basically now it's just something you can brag about but it's not really known who the best team(s) is.

The reason they want to run up the score is because they think it looks better to the people who vote vs winning games closely. Another flaw in the system.

reply

You are unfortunately correct. Running up the score is a necessary evil in these circumstances, so teams getting beat by 70 points can cry about it, but that's just how it works. If you don't want to get scored on, then stop the other team.

Granted in other instances where scoring doesn't matter, I do believe it best to show restraint and dignity in sport. I've played them all and been on both sides of the equation, and it is embarrassing to be in a position where you're getting the score run up on you. There's something to be said about sportsmanship, and that's something I was always taught by my coaches no matter the sport. Perhaps I was a bit lucky in that regard.

That last game was an entirely foreseeable and avoidable scenario. It is a shame the game officials couldn't recognize that before it happened. I hope they are better prepared in the future. I can understand reasons for denying EMCC's appeal; however, I don't necessarily believe that was a just outcome. If anything that other school should probably have their program suspended for at least a year. Seemed the coaches were complicit in the baiting and fighting.
