DVR: lesson learned

Recorded this afternoon's session. Was watching the nail biter end of the Women's cycling and realized that I hadn't set it for extended recording. Yup that's right, I missed the last 6 mins. Spoiler: Thought for sure USA had it until I saw the results on the news.
Always use extended record for live tv. grrrrr. I should've known better.

The only time I'm likely to record anything with my Hopper DVR this year is with the opening and closing ceremonies, mostly because I like the winter games better. I specifically record the ceremonies because the DVR will automatically skip all of the commercials the next day, cutting a scheduled four and one-half hour show significantly down.

Because the opening ceremony was considered a sporting event, the DVR automatically padded the end with 60 extra minutes. Which turned out to give the recording a ~25 minute margin by the time the ceremony finished. Like you mentioned, always pad the end of the timer, but also make sure you add plenty of time -- ya never know.

Absolutely, at minimum add an extra 30 minutes, ideally an hour, for the Olympics.

Remember you can directly watch whatever you want on NBCOlympics.com too.

I just had a similar experience. Since the Equestrian event was late (preempted by golf) I missed it completely and just zoomed thru all of what I had recorded. Sorry folks who love golf.
