What a letdown, I prefer the 1957 version

I've started watching this with some anticipation, but the bleak scenes, darkness, the way it was shot...all of that just didn't work out for me at all. I haven't read the play so I don't know which of the two versions (1957 or 2016) resembled the play the most but 1957 over shines this by far! Completely different approach and characterization. At least there's no Toby Jones in that sex scene with his suicidal wife, eeck!

I have seen the play, it is much closer to the film than this was.

So, 1957 version is closer to the play than this 2-part thing?

The BBC version is closer to the Christie short story in some ways.

It's that man again!!

Both versions had different melodramatic endings, Marlene Dietrich's final act and Toby Jones' final act. Neither of these scenes appear in the original story.
