Season 2 finale - those last minutes

Why, why, why, why, why, June?????

NOTHING is worth that, not even getting revenge.

I was sooo disappointed myself.
Terrible ending

Yes, I don't feel entirely happy about it.

I've since seen an argument made for why she did this, involving the fact that at least she get to stay where her first child is in hopes of getting her back too.

I suppose I get that....but I just can't accept here staying in that awful city when she could have gotten to freedom and then worked from there to get the other child out. :(

I loved it. She can’t leave Hannah, she just can’t. And she can’t leave all those other brave amazing imprisoned women. She is ready — and able — to work to bring the whole thing crashing down. Couldn’t you feel her power?

reply

No

reply

I can see that, yes. She was going for the greater good of bringing the system down.

At the time of viewing, though, I was SO upset at her staying! Everything up until that point had been geared toward just getting her and her baby together again and out of there to safety, so my whole mind was focused on that goal.

So, to see her hand the baby off and stay behind made me scream at the screen!

But now, thinking about the larger goal of destroying the regime, yes, I guess I can get behind that.

reply

Yeah she's suddenly going to take on the Joan of Arc role and defeat the christo-fascist government all on her own.

It was ridiculous.

It was a devastating ending. After getting so close to escaping once already, to refuse to leave at the last moment made no sense. Until I thought about it afterwards, of course. She did the only thing she could do - she saw her baby safe in the care of her friend, and stayed to rescue her other child. If she’d left Gilead she wouldn’t have been able to help her. Nobody on the outside can influence anything - she’d have no chance. She knows what she’s giving up, and she knows the risk she’s taking. But she sees it as a better option than living half a life, without ever seeing her child again, always wondering if she could have helped her.

reply

Exactly.

reply

the core of the drama is her in that situation.

there's no show if she leaves.

reply

This too. ;)

I wasn't disappointed in the least because she's not getting revenge. She just had six Marthas help her escape. The Professor is now in deep shit for helping Emily escape. Not to mention Nick and Serena (!!!), Eden's death and the fact that Eden's father turned her in. She is going to help all these other people who helped her and, if she gets revenge in the offing, so be it. As Rita said to Nick earlier in the episode, "Your girlfriend is a badass."

I love that the baby's name is Nichole now...for Serena.
