But this film is no where NEAR as gripping as The Conjuring movies (which were already not as gripping as they were reviewed to be). The Nun relies entirely on jump scares and uses darkness to hide cheap effects they're trying to pass off as horror. I have been hearing so many great things about this movie. Maybe I just over hyped it in my own mind. I don't mean to ridicule anyone who truly loves this movie. I just don't see what they do. I tried. Twice.

Once was enough for me.It had a great setting and a scary antagonist but for the very reasons you mentioned it was a big let down for me.Not as big a let down as Annabelle was though.

What you said makes absolutely no sense...

If there's darkness and it looks good or effective it doesn't matter if the effects are "cheap" or anything at all.
