Philip Glenister - shocking (SPOILERS)

Unless we have flashbacks, was anyone else totally shocked Philip Glenister was killed off so soon?

reply

Thanks for the spoilers alert. Grrrr

reply

Sorry. I assumed that was the one part of the story people knew

reply

If you looked at the credits, you would see that PG is listed in being in all 6 eps.

reply

Yes, I have. It's weird. Unless there's flashbacks or he's not really dead (which doesn't make sense. I know he's had his eyes shot out but surely he was still recognizable)

reply

My guess? Flashbacks!

reply

Has to be I guess

reply

Another example of imdb not being 100% accurate about TV credits before the episodes air. Glenister was not credited in tonight's episode (episode 4).

reply

Why does Glenister have top billing when he's hardly in it.

reply

Perhaps because his is the most recognised name in it, but, makes no sense as he surprisingly had such little screen time

reply

That almost reminds me of John Candy's last film Canadian Bacon. Of course the circumstances were different there as he had a heart attack during shooting, When the film came out, I rented it on video. Candy got top billing and it was his pic that was most prominent on the box. He was in it for less than two minutes.

On reflection, I was hardly surprised that they used Candy to promote the film because it was very poor.

I have just watched episode 5 and thru-out the season he was only shown in very few and brief flashbacks. The only reason I can think of using him at all is because Frank is such a pivotal character in the emotional life of the people in his life. Having someone unknown that just disappeared after the first few minutes would have lessened the impact of his treatment of them. This way, we always see him in our mind and can understand both why they loved him and why they felt betrayed by him.

reply

Yes he was the reason I watched it, had no idea they were going to kill him off.
