I don't know when showing interracial couples on television became common in Europe, but in real life, most of Europe accepted interracial marriage since about a thousand years ago, after the Moors conquered the area that is now Spain and Portugal.

Personally, I think "the trope" performs a public service. Maybe if those Americans who are race-obsessed see it long enough and often enough, they will start to see people instead of complexions.

I think the poster's remark was offensive and probably he was looking to incite others or looking for like minded people to rant about his intolerance.

Are you assuming the poster is American? Even if this is the case, please don't throw "those Americans" into the mix. That is just another form of intolerance. Makes you sound holier than thou too. Not a nice quality.

reply

I did assume the OP was American from board profile. Perhaps you incorrectly assumed I'm not American?

Or just annoyed by annoying tropes like a lot of us long suffering telly viewers. Here's a classic "kitchen sink" list.

Oh for heavens sake. It's not a trope it's call real life. Your post is offensive and ignorant.

reply

>>It's not a trope

Yes, it is. Interracial couples are a significant or recurrent theme on TV shows. As such it is perfectly legitimate to class them as a trope. The significance is the disproportion compared to the statistical likelihood.

>>Your post is offensive and ignorant.

Please explain why.

How sad that you notice a couple as interracial, it's just two people!! What does their skin colour have to do with anything? maybe the best actors won the roles and race was never a consideration???

Ad Hominem.

>>maybe the best actors won the roles and race was never a consideration???

And maybe it was. Isn't this fun?

reply

Yes, it is. Interracial couples are a significant or recurrent theme on TV shows.

By this logic same race couples on TV shows would also be a trope. And a tiresome one.

reply

Cherry picking.

reply

No, that same sex couple trope happens all the time, so not cherry picking.

reply

Yes, cherry picking as you ignored significance.

reply

Still banging on about this?

OK

Ad Hominem again.
