What excuse could Garland have given a new employer?

In the second episode Garland is told that he has to leave at the end of the month. In other words, he's sacked. He immediately starts looking for another job. Now, my question is this: if this really did happen in real life, what excuse could he give to potential employers as to why he is leaving? What would his excuse be?

It would be common knowledge that Lord Hamilton had died. He could say he didn't feel the same loyalty for the new owner that he had for Lord Hamilton. What I don't understand is why they'd CARE that Lady Hamilton didn't like him. They're her competitors for pete's sake and should relish the chance to have an experienced manager of a successful hotel working for them.

Because they all run high end hotels and are dependent upon the custom of wealthy guests -- people who move in the same social circles as Lady H. If another hotel hired Garland, she could have flexed her social muscles and blacklisted their hotel (society would have boycotted the offending hotel).
