The Cafe De Paris Nightclub Bombing 1941

Does anyone know if this show features the terrible bombing of the famous Cafe de Paris nightclub in London which killed up to 80 people on 8th March 1941?

Short answer: I do not know!

However, the programme starts with the bombing of the hotel, while revellers are dancing. As we see later in the series, the hotel had an underground shelter. Shades of the subterranean Cafe de Paris. I wonder whether Sonny Sullivan, the charismatic bandleader, may be modelled on the ill-fated 'Snakehips' Johnson of the Cafe de Paris.

We shall see, I suppose.

Dunno. The last date stamp on the screen said October 1940.

So we aren't there yet, I guess.

Undoubtedly some of the regular denizens of the Halcyon might be over at the Café dancing and partying, so we might lose somebody in that bombing.

It also has been telegraphed it could be Betsey. Her dream stated early on was to sing at the Café. And she was late to perform and admitted going someplace else (I assumed she'd been over at the Café trying to get in the door or auditioning or something).

It wasn't stated. But it seems they might be setting it up for her to get killed there--maybe.

Otherwise why bother to write the Café de Paris into the script in the first place--right in the beginning--then say how much Betsey wants to sing there. It must be in the script for a reason.
