"cursed"

I remember a part in the movie's trailer where Alma was saying to him, "you are not cursed!"
Maybe it was during their fight over the dinner she cooked him, or maybe it was a separate scene, but this seemed to have been cut from the final film. The only allusion to it that I noticed was the "never cursed" message that she found in the lining of the wedding dress.
What was the idea of him being cursed? Is it related to the superstitions surrounding wedding dresses, or is it something to do with his mother? I'm interested to hear other people's ideas.

I think the first time Reynolds and Alma have dinner he talks to her about why he's not married and how his family is cursed since his mother had to re-marry because his father died and his sister isn't married. Personally, I think the curse he feels is more due to his dedication to his trade (dressmaking) which seems to control most of his life and makes it hard to have a meaningful, long-lasting relationship with someone else.
