Both excited and nervous for this sequel...

I have very mixed feelings about this sequel. I think one of the things that made the original so special and genius was that it was essentially filmed in one location, and the story was moved forward primarily by the music and the cast itself, rather than by any overt action or scene change.

It sounds like this new movie is going to have to take place in multiple settings, which makes me fear it will be less character-driven and more "scenery-driven".

But I can't help but be excited at the possibility of learning more about John's future...and, of course, his past. In a very practical sense, we're at a time in our society's progression where it would be nearly impossible for someone of John's "specialness" to continue to live out his life without anyone noticing the lack of aging and such.

Now supposedly, John IS going to find himself aging in this... and I really hope there's a unique and compelling reason for that. I don't want it tied to some social message of "John is aging because we're destroying the earth." Much as I believe we ARE destroying the earth, I think it's become an all-too common trope in movies today. It's lazy writing.

I'd find it far more interesting to learn that John is aging because of humanity's overall move away from religion. But even at that, the writers and director will have to be very careful to avoid relying on tropes of that nature as well.

I think it's going to be very tricky for them to bring us a sequel that is going to have the same impact on viewers the original movie did. I want them to write a movie for the fans of the first... not a movie meant to fit in with today's concepts of entertainment. I'm skeptical that that goal will be possible to meet.

True by adapting the film to fit it to this time instead of the last movie will be very interesting to say the least. I really loved the original and mooching away from the 1 setting and cast based performance driven story, it'll be hard to match.
