Sandler just too ugly to watch

and too New York to listen to.
This guy is very rich, but he is not a good leading man.
He gets his parts not by fitting them, by buying them.

reply

"Too New York" meaning too Jewish? Even if he did, it's a ridiculous criticism considering he is playing a New York Jew.

And no, he is not in any way ugly. You are just demonstrating your own prejudices here.

reply

Well he was ugly in the movie. His wife (in the movie) was the most annoying though.

reply

It seemed like he was particularly uglier in this movie. Like he added certain blemishes to his skin, and what the heck was going on with his teeth? Was he wearing big fake dentures?

reply

is he Jewish?

reply

Are you asking me if Adam Sandler is Jewish?

reply

I am.
Most people seems to be able to tell ,with certainty, if another person observes the religion just by looking at them, but I cant .

reply

He has a very strong Jewish identity, a lot of his comedy is based on that.

Or, you know, you could have looked him up on IMDb.

reply

The guy who sings "Eight Crazy Nights"?

reply

80% of the white cast looked very Jewish, especially at that family gathering. Sandler is "central casting" level Jewish looking. Other examples that look "Jewish", Jerry Seinfeld, Judd Hircsh, Jeff Goldblum.

Barry Greenstein (poker player) is probably the most "Jewish" looking person that I have ever seen.

How can they look Jewish? Judaism is a religion, not a race. Genetic tests show this. Jews do not have physical characteristics in common. They are a cultural/religious/linguistic group.

You have in mind a stereotype of what Jewish people look like and then through confirmation bias unconsciously seek out other examples to reinforce your belief.

reply

What genetic tests? You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Jews are an ethnic group. In fact those Ancestry DNA tests show precisely the percentage, and what type of Jew.

And I am Jewish (ethnically, I am an atheist otherwise), so don't you start with me about prejudice and whatnot.

reply

Jewish is actually both a faith and an ethnicity. Now, I'm mostly Italian, so I can study or speak the Italian language while looking Italian, but I can't practice any Italian faith, except during the times I'm holding a potful of pasta:-).

reply

You are 100% incorrect. Judaism is an ethnoreligion. The entire basis of it is that their race, the semitic race, is the chosen race of god. It is true that people who are nonethnic Jews can observe the religion but the vast majority are ethnic Jews and have certain genetic phenotypes that are very obvious as all races do. Please do the most basic research before spouting nonsense online. You think you're being righteous and signalling your virtue and tolerance but you actually just sound like a dunce.

reply

Well, obviously they cast Jewish actors on purpose.

Although in my experience the most exaggeratedly Jewish-looking people are usually Italian (Jason Biggs, Anne Bancroft, John Turturro, that teenage boy from The Mick).

This guy you posted actually looks more Armenian to me.

reply

Have you ever seen any Nazi anti-semitic posters?, Brian Greenstein looks like he modelled for one them.
You do realise that Jews (the Ashkenazi ones, you know, the "real" Jews), Greeks and Italians have common genetics right?.

I am actually Greek (and kinda look like Jason Biggs LOL) and have on occasion been mistaken for being Jewish by both Jews and I guess you could say "people that don't like Jews" (no help that I am sometimes called the diminutive of my name, Aristide-Ari). And funnily enough the Jewish people were more friendly to me when they thought I was Jewish and went cold on me when they found out I wasn't (one girl literally turned her back on me when it dawned on her I wasn't Jewish, bummer because she was kinda hot). Another time I was talking to this Jewish guy and he asked if I was Jewish and I said I'm Greek, and then mentioned that Greeks and Jews are kinda similar, you know, "uno faca uno ratsa" and boy-o-boy did he have a hissy fit. "Greeks and Jews ARE NOTHING alike". He pissed me off and I snapped back "yeah we are both big nosed fish bums that think we are Gods gift to the world".
And the Jew hating people warmed up to me when they found out I wasn't. One time I went to visit my GF who was living with an older German lady (I estimated she would have been a teenager during WWII) who gave me a filthy look and was hesitant to let me in after she answered the door. For a good 10 minutes she was giving me daggers until she just blurted out "are you Jewish?". She totally relaxed and offered me cake after I told her I was Greek (it was like that scene in Borat).

OY VEY YOU DIDNT JUST ASK THAT!!!

reply

What jealousy! Don't stay down, Google maps knows the nearest bridge.

reply

Don't agree. I don't care for Sandler's comedies, but his dramatic work is generally quite good. This too, although I did feel the character was mostly a little too one-note.

reply

There is a lot of missed potential.

reply

LMAO

It seemed like he was particularly uglier in this movie. Like he added certain blemishes to his skin, and what the heck was going on with his teeth? Was he wearing big fake dentures?

reply

this movie would have been perfect if not for the fake dentures. So yes.

reply

For fucks sake...who is looking at an actors complexion in a movie like this?

And anyway, the guy was clearly living on a knife edge and balancing a lot of balls in his personal and professional life.

Is it that much of a stretch that he may not be getting enough sleep, not eating healthy etc and therefore not looking that good...and therefore looking shitty?

reply

I did not mind it at all but the teeth were distracting for sure. Amazing movie though!

reply

Normally I wouldn't care but I've seen like 25 different Sandler movies and I know what he looks like. Weird thing to just try to make your skin look worse for a role

reply

Actually, that's the Safdie brothers filming style, all those close-ups of skins where you see every little flaw. If everyone filmed actors this way, I am sure you'd be in for a lot of surprises with a lot of different actors.

reply

He's done well in a few movies as a leading man. The Wessing Singer comes to mind.
