Why no sequel?

I just don't understand why Luca would not do a sequel.
CMBYN was so successfull and all the actors said how great the chemistry on set was and that they would be up for a sequel.
Andre Aciman has written the second Book so why not make a new movie out of it?
Luca hais talked about making a sequel in hundreds of Interviews and even shared some ideas but why wouldn't he actually do it? I just don't get it!!!!

There is a sequel scheduled. Presumably it will divert quite a lot from the second novel, which is not promisingly cinematic at all.

reply

Yes, Luca said he wanted to do this directly after the first movie. But now we don*t hear anything. I think he gave it up

Hmm.. according to this (published just a few days ago) Guadagnino is still talking about it but nothing has been set. Yeah, I suspect this may never happen.

I finished the second book last night and yes, it would require a lot of changes to work as a film. Honestly, it barely even works as a novel -- other than the quite engaging first section, from the POV of Elio's father, I found it mostly dull and only finished it because it is fairly short.

Well, Guadagnino is still talking about the sequel, and this sounds positive. Obviously, if they plan to film in Italy, there may still be quite a wait for this.
