Why did it have to be set right before the first movie?

Surely that means the Lamberts were only the third case that Elise worked with Tucker and Specs on, or are we to assume they had other adventures between 3 and 4?

Also, ending it the way they did means we can't have more movies, unless the order is going to be 3, 5(+), 4, 1, 2?
