1980's calling!!!!

I loved a lot of the old Private Eye shows from the 80's and this show has the flavour but not enough of the charm as yet. It may grow into that retro niche as it has the potential to. Let's face it many people like uncomplicated family watchable stuff and this does seem to fit the bill. Jason Priestly is always very watchable but I am not feeling much chemistry between the 2 leads at all. That is not necessarily a bad thing though, and it would be a nice change to have a show where the 2 leads are business partners who don't hook up romantically and who benefit from each others skill-sets. You know, like real life!!!!. Some shows take a while to find their feet so I guess it is a "wait and see "for me.

Just an aside I loathe the reworking of the Hall and Oates Private Eyes theme song. It is puerile. Please get a singer who has soul in her voice not pop!!!!!

Enjoy. 

Glad you enjoyed it. Every time I watch this show I think of the Pysch version of Private Eyes.

If you can overcome your loathing of the song and see it for what it truly is, it may be just the tonic to help swallow that pill.

The song, including its performance is a perfect encapsulating metaphor for the entire show - a candy-coated treatment of themes from a bygone era which still hold a great deal of relevance today.

I love this show *because* it's a light bit of fluff that's not going to offend you, treat you like an idiot, insult your grandmother or preach a sermon.

I don't know if they carried this throughout the entire season, but at least for the first couple of episodes, the end credits theme was the original version.

Maybe that is the way to look at the opening song but being a Hall and Oates fan the candy, coated pop approach just gives me the heebies. I do agree with you about the show. It is nice to not be preached at, have to cover the kids ears and eyes, flinch from gore or worry that Gran will be offended. I am enjoying it and hope it is successful. But who can tell what the Hollywood machine will do.
