Ash vs The Evil Dead

Is Stan against evil going to be a rip off of Ash?

reply

DER! You can see it's a ripoff. Nothing original anymore. Dana Gould is a hack. he's never been funny and can't even come up with an idea. I'll check it out cuz John McGinley is awesome.

reply

Blame the studio, not Dana. He's been pitching this project for more than 10 years - LONG, LONG before Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

If Dana Gould is such a hack, why has he had a 30 year career, with multiple Emmy Awards, in a business where most people don't last even 10 years and rarely sniff an Emmy nomination, much less seven Emmy nominations.

I wish I was that big a hack.

reply

The Evil Dead franchise is 35 years old

reply

The script for Ash vs. Evil Dead isn't that old, though. I think that's what they're saying.

reply

Yes, but I was pointing out the tv show is literally just a continuation of the three films it does not matter when either tv show was green lit the idea was already done by Bruce and Sam numerous times

reply

Actually, you're only making the comparison because AvED exists. They are saying that if it did not exist, you would not be comparing it to the ED franchise. Because it doesn't compare to the movies. So your argument is....hmm, dumb. How bout waiting until it comes out then come back and call it a rip-off.

*beep* off, you goddamn *beep* *beep*

Did you "seriously" just get pissed off? By the way I did not actually call it a rip off I merely asked if it was going to be, you can tell the difference by the little question mark at the end of the sentence. AvED compares to AOD, more so than ED 1 or 2 if we are going strictly by films you would use the third installment, but we don't have to because AvED exists and specifically mentions the prior films as cannon. If we were going simply by titles, Stan Against Evil or Ash Versus Evil, then yes you could make an argument based solely on AVED's existence without actually seeing either.

Lol he won two Emmys for one episode of the Simpsons... his career honestly is not as impressive as you are making it out to be. The concept for this show may have been in development for a while, but it was clearly only greenlit because of the success of Ash vs Evil Dead.

even if that's true it would still be a BLATANT Evil Dead rip off in every sense of the word and it now only exists purely because of the success of Ash vs Evil Dead.

reply

I saw some commercials for this. First thing that popped into my head was Ash.

reply

Isn't Ash just about evil dead corpses?

Whereas Stan seems to be about various demons. That alone is quite a big difference.

____

"No! He is imprinted on you like a gay duckling. If you don't wean him off you slowly, he'll die."

reply

no there are different demons in Ash

reply

If they've incorporated different demons into the show, then AvED is a rip off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! 

reply

There were demons since the first movie back in 1981

reply

No, there are multiple types of demons in Ash.

reply

The question is if it's a good rip off or a BAD one. Ash doesn't have a high bar but they mix the brutality and comedy quite well. This feels like they're going more towards comedy which could work but that will make any non-comedy scene feel out of place and just poor. We'll see how bad it is once it airs.

Ash doesn't have a high bar? Have you been following the show?

Indeed it is. This review summirizes the series pretty well: ,,The show is clearly inspired by The Evil Dead, right down to the blood geysers and one-liners like “Geeze, lady, anybody ever tell you you look like a barrel of *beep* But whereas The Evil Dead‘s Ash was capable of change, Stan’s nothing more than an insufferably sexist and homophobic throwback, willing to risk everyone’s life in order to prove that Starsky and Hutch were secretly gay. At best, Stan Against Evil could be described as a campy mash-up, some sort of would-be Wet Hot American Horror Story, but Gould’s no Lloyd Kaufman, and his series will be lucky if it runs longer than the buffoonish cartoon of a series it most echoes, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo." :) Even the duration of the episode, the font on the cover are the same :D The concept of horror comedy "Ash vs. Evil dead" I think first was used with the second Evil Dead movie in 1987. Then fallowed third movie, comic books, few video games. Thus it is continuation of three decades work. "Stan Against Evil" are shameless copycats

I really liked the pilot for Stan Vs. Evil. I also watch Ash Vs. Evil Dead but I'm constantly being reminded it's a show for the Beavis and Butthead demographic.

Is there no lawsuit? I'm confused how they can just rip it off so blatantly..
