Final scene (spoilers)

So, was elijah wood's character alive, or some kind of alucination? I mean... the stabs he gets and the amount of time he spend without attention in the woods may be pretty fatal.

reply

He's alive and recovering, we can see he's using a metal cane to walk which would be an unnecessary detail if he was dead.

Also we hear him interract with another character. So yep, alive.

reply

Aahh, I didn't notice the cane, that's defently a proof that he's recovering from his wounds. Yes he talks about the burguers and all, but still, keep me wondering.

reply

I thought the final dialogue exchange between he and the other guy pretty funny

reply

Yes he's alive. I liked how they first tricked us into thinking that she's seeing a ghost or imagining him there.

reply

they didn't trick me for a second

I think at first it was meant to be ambiguous (when we can just see his face with the sky in the background), but then when he's talking more specifically about cooking hamburgers, that indicates that he's real.
But, the scene seemed contrived to me. I wonder if this was an alternate ending if viewers did not like an earlier ending (where he died).
Also, based on the multiple stab wounds (which was a good and realistic scene about stabbing someone...), and the passage of time, it's very hard to imagine that he would have survived. (And speaking of which -- why run into the woods and cross a river when he is bleeding internally? Why not call 911 or run to a neighbor etc?)

reply

Why panic and act irrationally at a time of crisis when it's totally feasible to take action at any given moment with full hindsight?
