Name me a better serious zombie movie?

I honestly couldn't think of another zombie movie that was better than this.
Only the first 1/2 of 28 Days Later even comes close to being as good IMO.

Are you serious?

Original Night of the Living Dead? Original Dawn of the Dead?

reply

Old is not the same as good

reply

They're the movies which popularized the whole "rotting corpses that eat people" type of a zombie, they're full of symbolism, good character interactions, characters in those are pretty smart etc.

They're widely regarded as classics, not just in the horror genre but movies in general by both critics and regular audiences. They both gave them amazing reviews and are still loved by this day.

So, your reply makes no sense. Are you one of those people who thinks everything Asian is superior?

reply

Nope.

Just found both movies pretty boring, Especially Night of the living dead

The original NotLD needs to be appreciated through a lens of when the whole concept of zombies itself wasn't beaten to death for decades, it pioneered the genre and set the stage for the zombie flicks after it. Dawn/Day then became the quintessential zombie survival movies, with Dawn focusing on the world in collapse and Day on the world post-collapse. Movies from that era can seem campy with the desensitization we have to FX now and with updated cultural mores, but they were founding works in their genre.

The plot in broad lines has been copied so often now it seems "boring" but every detail around plot is worked out exquisitely, the franchise has rich lore to it.

Hello Shillbot:

Return of the Living Dead

Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) is a serious one, though it doesn't involve a large-scale zombie apocalypse.

Zombi 2 by Lucio Fulci

More serious and more intense was [REC] try to watch it and you'll know it. The best zombie movie of all time for me. US remake it and the title was Quarantine.

Second best for me was 28 Days later and Resident Evil, next was Rammbock: Berlin is Dead and La Horde.

reply

Rec was about possessed people, not zombies

reply

Actually, possessed people in that movie are still some sort of a zombie.

reply

Yes, but it's still called as "zombie" movie cause if they can bite you or scratch you, you will turn.

reply

Rec was actually based on rabies. Which is pretty cool. But yeah it's definitely in the 'zombie' genre.

reply

Technically, Train to Busan is also about some kind of rabies, not zombies.

reply

Rec was more about a disease that came from the Devil or witchcraft?? the little worm thingy transferred from host to host.
