Not as bad as some made it out to be

Ok, I’m going to be completely honest. Was the film weird? Yes. But the show Cats has ALWAYS been weird. I remember seeing it for the first time as a child watching The Royal Variety Show.

So yeah the show is weird, and strange, and the cats have always looked creepy but the film wasn’t half bad. The whole cast gave a great performance, the singing and dancing was incredible as was the cinematography.

Is it one of my favourite stage musicals? No. Is it one of my favourite move musicals? No, but it wasn’t as bad as some (many) made it out to be. I think a lot of people went into this film not really knowing much about it. I also don’t believe the cgi was awful, not perfect but not terrible, and honestly the stage costumes are just as horrifying lol

All in all I enjoyed the performances, especially Gus: The Theatre Cat, Skimbleshanks: The Railway Cat, Macavity and Memory.

And I’ve definitely seen and paid for worst films.

I agree. I saw it last night with my wife. It's nowhere near as bad as some people are saying. Although I will say for a production budget of $95 million it had kind of a cheap feel to it. Where did they spend all that money?

reply

Yeah I agree. As good as it was, it did not feel or look like a $95 million dollar film.

reply

None of the songs are good or memorable. That doesnt help in a musical weird or not.

reply

I disagree. The ones I mentioned are mentioned because I found them good and memorable. Are they as memorable as other musical songs? No, but they were still memorable in their musical/film.

reply

I disagree also. They are not good songs nor are they memorable. In fact ive just skimmed the songs on Youtube and they are terrible without a single memorable song in there.

So you resurrected your barely posted with account after 3 whole years to post a defense for Cats? Add another sparkling new account to the list of defenders.

reply

Well I suppose it's a good thing that people have different tastes as to what songs people find memorable or not. As for you defense that you skimmed.....yes many accurate decisions have been made by people who skimmed things (note sarcasm).

Not that it's any of your business but I've barley posted because the content on here isn't as good as it was when imdb did the message boards. I'm back on here and posting because I've seen a lot of films recently and wanted to talk about them, and I think Cats has been prematurely judged since the trailer by a lot of people who didn't know much about it. And it says a lot more about you and the fact you felt the need to check and judge my posting history.

reply

Skimmed or not, i listened to a good chunk of all of the songs. I couldnt hum a single tune after the video finished.

Come back in a year and you wouldn't be able to hum or name a single song. Walk out of the cinema and you wouldn't.

It's a musical. Its all down to the songs, and they are not good.

>Well I suppose it's a good thing that people have different tastes as to what songs people find memorable or not.

There are preferences to a point but there is a reason why songs are forgotten, lost in time and other songs are remembered.

Art is Subjective. To a point. There's a reason why people remember the songs of Grease, The Nightmare Before Christmas or even Mary Poppins and ask them to sing or hum a song from Cats and they cant do it.

>I'm back on here and posting because I've seen a lot of films recently and wanted to talk about them

Yet in 9 days back only 1. Cats.

Funny how all of these new people are popping up just to tell us how good Cats is. Especially when barely anybody saw the thing.

"Come back in a year and you wouldn't be able to hum or name a single song. Walk out of the cinema and you wouldn't."

the show has been in my life on and off since I was a child. One of reasons the ones I mentioned were my favourite performances were because I already knew them and thought they did them well in the film. So, knew the songs longer than a year already.

Since seeing the film I was working a lot and this past week had the week off work. I'm not on here 24/7, I have a life.

reply

The film "Cool as Ice" has been in my life on and off since I was a child.

Doesnt mean its good.

>So, knew the songs longer than a year already.

Was forced to watch shitty things by people when I was a kid. Grew up and realised those things were shitty.

Cats is bombing hard. Plain and simple. The songs are garbage for a musical and are not hooking people in no matter how ridiculous the visuals are.

You have good songs and the people will come. It doesnt, so the people dont come.

Its a simple as A,B,C-

Bad songs and it BOMBS!

Even with the musical loving crowd who will pay to see anything. Musicals usually make a lot of money. Like LOTS of money even though the films are pretty bad. It takes a lot when even musical film lover refuses to go and see a musical film. Because the songs do not draw them in.

reply

just because you think it's shitty, doesn't mean it is. Opinion and facts are two very different things

reply

Again, art is subjective, to a point.

There's a reason why Bohemuim Rhapsody is still listened to today and revered as one of the greatest post war songs and the Birdie Song by the Tweets is not.

One is good and one is not. Simple as that. Subjective or not.

Cats bombed for a number of reasons. Even musicals fans have snubbed it.

reply

Again, opinion and facts are two very different things.

Bohemian Rhapsody is great, one of the greatest. But not everyone thinks so. Not everyone likes Queen or Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't agree with them but that's their opinion. Not fact!

Cats the movie may have bombed. That's because a large number of people didn't like it which is fine, but again it's their opinion. But there are people out there, like me who did like it and that's ok too because that's our opinion.

reply

It goes both ways. Just because you think something is amazing does not mean that it is all that good.

>Bohemian Rhapsody is great, one of the greatest. But not everyone thinks so

But a lot more think it's a great song than they do of "the birdie song".

So when all those opinions stack up either way it goes past the point of art being subjective and to the point of being able to say that a song is great or bad based on a lot of data collected on peoples opinions.

> But there are people out there, like me who did like it and that's ok too because that's our opinion.

Not many. A few people say the "The Birdie Song" is a good song. Not many though.

Anyway, try and wriggle out of it all you want with your weak assed argument of opinions count for nothing crap, the FACT is Cats bombed, thats no opinion.

It is getting awful reviews from critics and movie goers alike. Many many people are saying it's awful, truly terrible.

It gets to point when all of those voices stack up and you have to consider that the film may be truly awful.

reply

It goes both ways. Just because you think something is amazing does not mean that it is all that good.'

But that's the thing, you don't seem to get that. You seem to think that because you say it's bad, so should everyone else. Look, I'm having a bad pain day and don't feel like going back and forth with you. Let's just agree to disagree.

See you around on another film thread maybe.

reply

>You seem to think that because you say it's bad, so should everyone else.

Many, many, many, many people.

There must be something to it.

By your logic all movies are the same level. Good and bad does not exist no matter how many people voice an opinion either way.

The Godfather is on the same level as Manos Hands of Fate because all movies are the same.

It's kind of a weak argument to have.

reply

The songs suck, and I’ve seen it live. Lloyd Webber was a whore.

“Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ/Why is your album so over-priced?”

What. A. Schlockmeister.

reply

Its ridiculous.

reply

Yes, it is as bad. Lloyd-Webber pretty much single-handedly destroyed the Broadway musical. JC Supestar, Cats, Dreamcoat—not a good tune among ‘em. Tripe and pap.

And the shill, I mean OP, was last seen 12 days ago.

reply

Hi, shill here.

If you had bothered to read my last post I was having health problems. I don't live on this site or the internet 24/7 unlike some and my physical health had to take the drivers seat for a while. But thanks for showing you are nothing more than a robot. No heart, no brains and cold.
