Season 3 - Episode 4 "Gently Falling Rain"

Notes compiled while watching:

We fade in on a speech that sounds like it was cribbed from one Hitler gave on the Treaty of Versailles, but clearly she is meant to represent Trump.

Seth loves Broadway so of course we get the final song of Annie. It was hilarious to realize that singing about how the sun was going to come out sounded like a
horror story to the Krill.

Isaac in the Old West looked hilarious. Reminded me of A Fistful of Datas.

Clearly they mean to do some world building by taking us to our first Krill planet.

Ah, this time Ed leaves on the shuttle, but for the first time this season leaves Kelly behind. This time it would seem to make more sense to bring her along because it's only a diplomatic mission and besides, wouldn't she want to be in on the galaxy-shaking events? I think the show really telegraphs what's going to happen by the way they treat Kelly. By leaving her on the ship it's clear something important is going to happen there.

Hmm, the Expanding Helix maneuver and no seat belts. Something wrong with this picture...

Echoes of Star Wars space opera.

And now taking a left turn into Roe v. Wade.

Not too sure about the Krill salute. Looks like it would get tiring fast.

It's always the blue guys who get killed first. ;)

The show seemed like an unannounced part 1.

I guess I liked it, though maybe it wandered a bit too far into the space opera side. Maybe I'll appreciate it more when more of its issues find resolution.

I liked it, but what happened to the humor in this show? It’s turned into Star Trek. The best one on the air, for sure, but just another of the bunch.

Yes, was it difficult to feel funny during the pandemic? Not sure. After so many years in comedy, seems that Seth is trending more toward drama, especially with the whole World War II series on the horizon.

Forgot to mention my surprise at a romance brewing between Talla and Gordon. I guess he's going to be the lothario of the show.

Also a bit surprised to find casual sex happening between Ed and Kelly. They going to end up battered and bruised again?

Season 4 - Episode 6 "A Tale of Two Topas"

Great episode, building further on Topa's established story. Although at times it was a little too much like the previous episodes, on the whole it managed to transcend this. A great episode for Bortus, who just gets more and more interesting as a character. It was also a great episode for Kelly, who also had a terrible dilemma to solve. We probably have not heard the end of this storyline either.

The admiral laid it on a little thick, I thought, even though we knew what the punch line would be.

Seems like they could have done a bit more with the archaeological dig, which as far as I could tell did not really tie into the A plot line, but it was certainly interesting, often having an Indiana Jones feeling from the music, settings, even the way the camera came in from high above. Steal from the best, right? ;)

I wonder what Gene Roddenberry would have thought of the episode. Although Klyden is not a member of the crew, he is resident on the ship and he and Kelly basically came to blows, which would have been forbidden by the Star Trek writers guide.

This kind of episode is the single best reason to have a show like this. Sure we have TNG and all the other old shows, but a current show can discuss the issues that are uppermost in our minds today, and which TNG couldn't get into quite as much back in the day. That's worth something.

Anyway, best episode of the season so far, and at 75 minutes long we certainly got our money's worth on this one!

Episode 6 - "Twice in a Lifetime"

Gotta love what Peter Macon is doing playing the Bortus character. No idea what his inspiration is, but his deadpan portrayal is certainly inspired, and hilarious.

Seeing Dan in the background reminds me that we haven't heard from him yet this season. Miss his weird smalltalk.

Great looking scenes as they approach the wreckage early in the episode.

What happened to Gordon didn't seem very plausible.

The cloaked shuttlecraft was a very cool effect.

They just know how to ride motorcycles? I have such fond memories of Kirk and Spock attempting to drive a car and failing miserably.

This is the second episode in a row that looks at the needs of the authorities vs. the needs of the individual.

There's some hypocrisy in what Ed and Kelly are doing. By traveling to the past they are also probably messing with the timeline.

The story idea playing with time is quite clever.

It would have been nice if they had thought about returning to a time before they had accepted Isaac on the ship and prevented all that happened because of it.

I thought this episode was about the 2020 election. Its basically how it happened except one candidate never left his basement.
