The brief plot description sounds an awful lot like the recently ended "Justified"...any connection???

No it's based on a 1988 murder of FBI agent Putnam's informant. I personally knew Putnam as he was introduced to me by a running friend who was a Federal Magistrate at the time. Putnam played soccer while in college at Connecticutt and also ran.
