Based on the stage version?

Does anyone know?

reply

Probably.

reply

Probably, but I thought I read that Mr. Fierstein is going to add some rewrites to make it work a little better for television. I believe he did the same with The Wiz.

reply

They'll probably change some things around. I know there's a rumor that they are including some songs from the film that weren't in the musical like Ladies Choice and The New Girl in Town, and excluding others that were in the musical. I think it's safe to say the Big Dollhouse is out for sure though and if they do include Ladies Choice then the Madison is out.

Why would Big Dollhouse be out? That's such a great song, and I was really disappointed it wasn't in the film. Plus, it's a great moment for whoever plays the Penny's mom/gym teacher/jailer character!

reply

Prudy Pingleton and the Gym Teacher are being played by two separate actresses.

reply

Still doesn't mean they have to cut the song. The Matron and the Gym teacher could be played by the same person. And it's stupid that they're splitting the parts anyway. That's what my theater did when I was in it, and it was stupid then too.

reply

Though it's much harder to get away with having one actor/actress playing multiple roles on screen because of the close-ups unlike the stage where they're much farther away from the audience.

reply

There haven't been any mention of casting, It's only been said that the actresses who are playing Prudy and the gym teacher are playing those roles alone. It's a song that can easily be left out if they have to exclude a song. The movie excluded it as well but that was because they left out the jail plot, not sure what this production is going to do though.

Well, wikipedia (which is always completely accurate) lists Big Dollhouse as the Act II opener. It looks like all the stage songs are included with the movie songs added in.

We'll have to wait and see.

I think it's best to wait and see. Hairspray Live won't happen until this December, which is plenty of time for them to tinker with it.

Plus it has also been said that Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source because anyone can submit incorrect information.

reply

It's December, and it's not in there...but anyhow, it's more similair to the original with the songs placed differently (Without Love in jail inside of the homes; I Know where I've been not during the march but in another scene).
