Inez's age seems a little ambiguous. In the 2007 movie, they never actually state her age. They show her outside the high school during Run and Tell That, but it's never actually said whether or not she attends the school. In fact, they completely disregard her age when she wins the Miss Hairspray competition, with Corny only saying that anyone who dances for it is eligible. (To me, however, she did seem like she could be in freshman year.)
In Hairspray Live, they seem to imply that Inez is in high school with them, as she attends the sophomore hop, though she does seem much too young to be in high school. (Doing a quick google search shows that the actress who played her is only 11, so yeah-- much too young to be in high school.)
In the original Hairspray they really bypass all of this-- in the original, Inez only wants to dance on the show's sibling day, which was meant for children in elementary and middle school.
