Oh no Garrett. Oh no, no, no...

Poor guy. He is getting put through the ringer by critics and fans alike and I can't really blame them.

Aside from having the "Lark" look, he was totally unacceptable in every possible way.

I think he had a cold (the sniffling and wiping his nose) so I'll excuse him that because live performers get sick all the time before shows but his dancing and singing were below average. I guess it works for his Teen Beach Movies but it doesn't for a big Broadway-like stage. And the biggest issue of all- the absolute hilarity of watching him try and play masculine and straight. Bless his heart but the dude is gayer than a picnic basket being carried by Elton John. He had more chemistry with Corny Collins and Seaweed than he did with Tracy. So many male theater stars are gay but you have to be able to at least act like you are into girls just to sell the damn part. Epic fail.

But I do hope he doesn't take the thrashing on social media to heart all that much... -_-

That's awfully mean.

He is above average even he is sick.

Having rewatched it yesterday (the original-- not the edited version they aired on Monday), I totally agree, and actually thought he was a lot better than I'd originally given him credit for. Sure, there were a few bum notes, but he did appear sick, so we have to take that into consideration.

Higher up on the thread I'd mentioned that I thought his acting was iffy, and still believe that it was in Hairspray Live. Since it aired, though, I've watched some of his other work and found his acting to be just fine. However, after doing some research (i.e., Googling, haha!), I found out that he's also a theater/musical theater guy, and in one interview said something along the lines of loving theater because it gives you the opportunity to "sell it to the back row." I think this may have been the problem with his line delivery in Hairspray Live-- I have to wonder if having a live studio audience for Hairspray Live may have been a hindrance in this regard, as I think it may have confused him as to who the audience he was actually supposed to be selling to was.

What I the world are you talking about? He was great!

Your comments are spot on, not mean at all, IMO.

I really don't know or care if Garret is gay. I haven't seen him in anything else. Yes, he looked the part, but I agree with every point of your critique.

Then why are you bashing him?

I thought Garrett was amazing. He sang and danced perfectly, his acting was terrific, he's beautiful and looks like a perfect Link Larkin. And I'm not sure what his sexuality has to do with his performance. I never thought for a second he was gay, but it doesn't matter anyway. The guy was terrific. Could you pull off what he did?

reply

Are you his agent? Or his mom?

reply

I felt bad for him. Zac Efron was trending on twitter for most of the show lol.

reply

Yes Garrett is a bit effeminate it is a bit of a stretch to believe him playing a straight man.

reply

I thought Garrett was really fantastic.

reply

I totally disagree. He was handsome, charming and that boy could dance you out of next Tuesday, he was going hard! Don't be a hater
