I found the character really interesting but I feel like I missed something with his exposition. It hinted he was a boxer or something, and he clearly knows how to fight. He's also insanely patriotic. I'm assuming he was in the military, perhaps special forces, and had some other past they didn't elude to. I mean, he was the toughest, yet calmest, SOB I've seen on screen.
