Helicopter

I don't know if I'm missing something completely obvious, but I didn't get the significance of the helicopter everyday?

I don't either, and why were they giving it the finger?

The way it came across to me was as another piece of the surrounding world that the kids might be fascinated by, but that this group (at least some) is cut off from. These pieces range from the mundane to the ritzy: pepperoni, ipods, Disneyworld, swank area hotels, brunches from said hotels. Just enjoying fireworks, something tossed in the sky for free, takes a good deal of effort. I don't think the helicopter is a symbol, really, but it's of a piece with other surrounding elements. Who in this 'world' would even consider a helicopter ride? It's something more that's close but laughably far away.

Also forr Moonee the tourist helicopter hovering in various scenes is like a helicopter parent, flying away, always

From IMDB:

Frequent flying of helicopters overhead was written into the script because production did not have enough budget to stop the helicopters from flying.

should have shot them down with a rifle
