Season 1 in review

I think now is a good time to judge it since the whole season is done. If I had to rate it I'd give it a 5 out of 10. Just average. There was some funny stuff but a lot seemed kinda dumb. I think the problem is it's just still too early. Being the first season after several years with a new cast takes trial and error.

Things I'd change -

Get rid of the classic sketches. It's a lazy way to fill time. Keep trying new material. That's how you get better.

Get rid of the crappy cgi that's used for blood and other things. It comes off cheap. The original used practical effects when it could but if you can't make something forget it. Write or edit around it.

Favorite sketches so far -

Singing ex in restaurant (from episode 1 not with Will Sasso and Bobby Lee)

Amish Stripper

How to make guns more popular meeting

Bachelors in Paradise spreading herpes

Ironically I didn't find the ones with old cast members that good except for the Will Sasso and Alex Borstein "You are the love of my Life" sketch. That was a clever update.

Actually I've yet to see every episode (I think I missed Episode 3) but here are my general thoughts on the season overall.

I, like many, was very skeptical of the new cast, because I expected a continuation of Season 14 of the original series (bland and largely unfunny). But there turned out to be at least one sketch per episode that made me laugh a lot. The first episode had the Game of Thrones sketch that made fun of how confusing the storylines are for average viewers.

Also, I grew to really like the cast. Here's how I rank them from great to not so great.

1. Piotr Michael: The guy's impressions are hilarious. Glad he got to do a lot of them. I even watched some of his pre-MadTV videos on YouTube, he's been at it since like 2007.
2. Adam Ray: I initially didn't think he was that funny, but he has grown on me, and does have a lot of charisma. I found out that he was actually in the movie The Heat (with Bullock and McCarthy). That role in one major film puts him as the most successful/famous of the group.
3. Carlie Craig: Nice Ariana Grande, Kristen Stewart, and Britney Spears impressions.
4. Lyric Lewis: Funny Viola Davis impression. Was also great in Game Of Thrones and Safe Space sketches.
5. Chelsea Davison
6. Michelle Ortiz: The only sketch of hers that she impressed me in was Safe Space.
7. Jeremy D. Howard: I think his Tracy Morgan impression was decent, but I wouldn't mind him not being here for Season 2.
8. Amir K: IMO, he was the weakest link.

Sketches I loved were Game Of Thrones, Safe Space, Empire, Trump Elementary, Jimmy Fallon, and Adele's PSA. Like the poster above me, the returning "all star" cast members didn't do much for me. One, because they reminded me how long ago their seasons were, but because the only ones that still seemed just as funny were Ike Barinholtz, Alex Borstein, and MAYBE Anjelah Johnson. The rest fell pretty flat for me. I also hope they don't play any "classic" sketches as time fillers in the future. MORE NEW MATERIAL.

On that note, I hope there is a Season 2. From what I've read, the ratings have been on par with other CW shows (500-800K viewers), so hopefully we'll be seeing more of this cast soon.

P.S. I've also been acknowledged by half of the cast on social media. First, Piotr replied to my tweet, then Lyric liked my tweet, then Lyric, Carlie, and Chelsea liked another of my tweets, and Chelsea liked one of my Facebook comments :D

Oh ya the Safe Space sketch was pretty good. Also the help group for people rescued by the Flash. How they suffered consequences from moving too fast.

I liked the new group fine. I knew the cast would be different since even before it ended they were transitioning. I'm always willing to give casts the benefit of the doubt since the writing is what will mostly determine how funny their roles are.

I still love the old members I just don't think their new sketches did them justice. Noticeably absent was Michael McDonald. I think a lot of people thought they would have a new Stuart sketch. I'm assuming they will next season which is probably for the best since they should more in tune by then.

I agree with pretty much everything you said.

At first I didn't really care for the cast but they really grew on me.

To anyone who's only seen the first episode, please give the show a chance because it gets better and will get even better if it has a future.
