Finale - Question About the Knife ??? (Spoilers)

I don't know if this was explained and I missed it, but did Chance have 2 knives/daggers? In the finale, they said that Chance stabbed Blackstone and he walked back to his room with the knife still in his chest when D pulled it out to let him die.

But when Chance woke up in the hospital, he still had his knife with him, (as returned to him by the nurse) no blood on it or anything. And it looked different than the one D pulled out of Blackstone. Guys did I miss something???

Thanks for reminding me of what my second "WTF" about the finale was. The other question I have is how Hynes knows Chance was at the scene. Hynes acted totally different and very sinister in the finale. In the meeting at the bistro or cafe where Chance tells him his story, Hynes was quiet and hypnotic, and not totally convincing as a good guy.

Oh, right! And now for the third unanswered question: Who were the Russian/Romanian/stereotypical Borat-style Eastern Europeans, and what ever happened to them?

reply

The Russian thugs took off in their car. But who killed the thug in the hotel room? Did Raymond do it when he came back? Or did D do it when he came in?

I can't imaging the thug would just sit there while Raymond was dying.

I think that next season will be another case, but also include the fallout from this one. Hines (or that other detective) will be after Chance or Chance will have to manipulate the facts and try to put it all on Raymond.

Honestly the wtf for me was how Chance denied knowing Raymond and Jaclyn. She was his patient. He referred her to the other therapist. It's all on the record. All he had to do was tell the truth with a little lie thrown in. Just say she was his patient, he referred her, Raymond was crazy jealous and threatened him. When they asked why Chance happened to be near the murder scene, he could just say he was out for a walk and since he doesn't remember the details, suggest that Raymond must've followed him. He could've brought up the fact that Jaclyn's first therapist was murdered.

I didn't see a dead thug. I still need to be clear on how Hynes knew Chance was at the murder scene since Blackstone drove back to the hotel.

reply

When D walked into the room, Jaclyn was still cuffed to the bed. The camera pans the room and the thug Raymond left to kill Jaclyn was dead on the floor in the corner. I thought maybe D killed him as he walked into the room but then wondered why the thug was just waiting there for Raymond to die. It wouldn't make sense that Raymond killed him when he came back to the room.

I'm not sure about the location of the hotel but i think it was fairly close to the cliff walk. I think Hynes was trying to figure out how Eldon got thrown over (or fell over) a wall near the location of Blackstone's murder. I don't think anyone would've made a random connection but Eldon had talked with Hynes about Blackstone. It was too big of a coincidence to ignore. But it still doesn't make sense how Raymond could be dead in one location and Eldon unconscious in another.

raymond. he has very mixed feelings about jackie, to say the least. he loves her; he is jealous of her and possessive; and he won't let her go.

he is furious at her and sees her as a risk to disclose his paperwork; but, then, when he returns to the motel, he changes his mind and protects her by shooting the gangster.

it's a sort of deathbed gesture. he likely knows he is dying; therefore, he no longer has to worry about protecting his scams, preserving his detective job. so he makes his last act a kindness to her: see how much i have loved you!

also, gangsters #2 and 3 have driven off, abandoning him, so raymond is not exactly happy with the east european muscle. he takes it out on gangster #3, standing watch in the motel.

regarding the location, raymond throws chance over the wall, then walks (or drives) the few blocks back to the motel (remember, chance offered the cliff house as a public meeting place near the motel).

That's exactly what I thought as well. What is nagging at me is what Raymond said to Chance right before he threw him off the cliff... He grabbed Chance by the face and said "You're not the one." What did he mean by that? I thought maybe he meant Chance was not the one for Jaqueline... But based on all the complexities of the show I just have a nagging feeling that's too simple of an answer.....

The nurse only gave him the sleeve type thing that attached to his pocket, the knife was gone.

The nurse gave him the pocket sheath back ; not the blade. The lateral spikes are for a better retention in the pocket, in the book, it was with cord tied inside the pocket that he worked the retention.
