It's Hard to Get Excited for Most of This Considering....

Now that I'm watching this its hard to get excited for many of the plot points as this series progresses. The scenes that I guess are supposed to be pick me up moments or major events I'm finding it hard to even care about. Such as when 1: They meet the witch consul 2: They meet the witches. 3: When they meet Scoresby 4: When they meet Iorek.

Why? Because the witches knew about the children & the other witches who were helping the Gobblers. Scoresby knew about the kids but didn't do anything, big adventurous guy he's supposed to be with him & his balloon, he did nada to help. The witch consul guy also knew of the children & the intercission process but it didn't motivate him to ask the witches for help.

Iorek , knew also, he even criticized the townsfolk saying that they knew but chose not to see. Yeah? What about yourself? You did nothing either, big bad bear built for war that you are. Asriel, we know doesn't give a flying crap, in fact he's guilty of helping the process along.

I'm pulling for the Gyptians as much as anybody, but are we supposed to be happy when they meet the witches,Scoresby, Iorek , etc? What are we supposed to say? "Ok! Now that they're meeting everyone, it won't be long now, everyone's going to help" But that doesn't make any sense. Why didn't anybody do anything, before the Gyptians came to the North looking for help?

You certainly didn't need them to show up asking for help when everyone knew what the deal was anyway & should've done something whether the Gyptians arrived there or not. Seeing as how this group knew & the witch consul knew, & Iorek knew, Scoresby knew. I mean what the hell man? Screw Lyra & the Gyptians. Was everyone waiting for a invitation or something? That's the disappointing about all of this if you ask me.

I think you have made some very perceptive comments about the human condition: few people mobilize to remedy injustice unless it directly affects them or someone related to them. Think of all the people in Nazi Germany who did nothing while their neighbors were dragged off to concentration camps. Or think of all the "good" people in the antebellum south who did nothing while black people were enslaved and tortured.

I'm finding the series to be rather disappointing, but I'll stick with it.

I guess the main thrust of the plot is that Lyra is the key. Individually, these people and groups didn't have the strength to take down the Magisterium's special projects division, and they wouldn't normally interact with each other. Lyra is the catalyst. She's got the people skills, she's got the magic truth watch, and she facilitates everybody coming together in common cause. Without the strength to win any one of them would be committing suicide. But together ...

If you don't like that explanation look at it this way. Plenty of times in books, TV, and movies the answer to why they didn't do x or y is, because that would end the story before it started. Why didn't Zion just build a huge fleet of ships (and ten thousand missiles with EMP warheads) to attack the machine city? Because without Neo and the journey of The One, The Matrix would be a single shoot 'em up action film pitting humans against AIs. My how original! 😎

Blame the author. He is the one who twisted the story out of all sense and into a travesty so that he could preach his version of the gospel.
