Where are all the posts?

We are finally going to see these epic books come to life and finish what the 2007 film could not.

Huzzah and bravo! I just saw the promo for this on HBO. Here is one of the posts, then. I loved The Golden Compass movie. I don’t know how it differs from the source, but I understand the difference is considerable. Will the HBO series go deeper into what I understand is the atheism of the novels? I am a devout Christian. I can almost always respect and tolerate those who feel and believe differently. Will I have a problem with this series? I hope not; but I welcome it just the same. “I disagree with what you say, sir, but I will fight to the death to defend your right to say it!” That’s another way of saying that I believe in free will.

I wasn't very impressed with the movie, I'm going to assume that HBO will give the story more time to develop and do a better job.

I'll watch this, if I don't drop HBO entirely.

I chose to like the movie, mostly because of the Armored Bears. I suspect you know Fantasy illustrator Frank Frazetta, who mimicked (and very well) Michelangelo’s painting style. One of his most striking paintings was of a Viking sleigh driven across the snows, by bears! The power of that image stays with me. I expect no one else to share my joy in the movie; but I can hope.

More armored bears coming up! And since it's a series rather than a featured film, they'll get more screen time!

I can't say I share your enthusiasm for Frazetta, whom I remember from my youth, and I can't say I will accept any comparison to Michaelangelo. I will, however, give Frazetta a small amount of credit for painting slightly more realistic nude women than Michaelangelo, but then Michaelangelo wasn't fond of looking at nude women.

You would notice that more than I, my friend. I was thinking of Michaelangelo’s apprehension of anatomy and especially veinage in the human body. He/they have the artistic eye of a surgeon. More armored bears it is!

According to one historical novel I read, male artists in the Florence of Michaelangelo's time were not officially allowed to use naked female models in their studios. If true, that would be one reason why Michaelangelo produced so few female nudes, and the most famous one looked like a guy with breast implants. (The other reason being that Michaelangelo had no personal interest in naked women.)

I'm still trying to make up my mind whether to keep HBO, now that my primary reason is gone. I might, there just aren't enough movies on the regular channels these days, and this might be an inducement.

I liked the first half of the movie but it sort of fell off in the second half. I thought the young actress who played Lyra was wonderful. It's pity the series wasn't continued.
