first impressions

A couple minor gripes. They made it look like it took Dan and Billy forever to dig up that very shallow grave in loose soil. And when Dan and Abra were at Overlook, why would they leave the headlights on in their car? If Dan had survived and they'd been able to just leave, would've been a shame for the battery to have been drained.

I'm a fan of the original movie, and of both novels. So it was interesting to see how they reconciled the two versions (novel and Kubrick) of The Shining. Hallorann survived the original novel, but him being a ghost here worked fine. And cool how they brought back the Overlook at the end instead of just the ruins in the novel. And when they said "boiler room" my heart leapt in my throat and I saw what they were going to do, loved it, set things right in terms of the original film changing the ending, in a way. Though I wish Dan could've survived like in the book, this felt a little too on the nose.

Glad they left out Abra actually being Dan's niece, that part of the book has always felt a little forced to me.
