Du Pont's sexuality

He was a closet gay man, right? I don't mean to mock or make light of any of it, but all signs point to him struggling with his sexuality. Surrounding himself with young athletes, his obsession with wrestling, his extremely brief marriage, and the fatal relationship with Schultz.

The other explanation is that his behavior was entirely the product of an unbalanced mind, but it seems very likely that his inability to live as an out gay man compounded his long untreated mental illness.

Lot of assumptions there. Could be he was just very socially awkward. Why assume he was gay?

reply

There's not lots of assumptions, only one -- that Du Pont was a homosexual.

This is a crime in which the victim and perpetrator can't tell their stories, and the accounts assembled afterwards are haphazard at best. I'm allowed to speculate; I'm not claiming absolute truth.

reply

I don't think he was gay. He could have been, sure, but there's no evidence to support it.

Dupont spent his entire life being abandoned and let down by his father, siblings, and then finally his mother "abandoned" him by dying. It seems just as likely the fraternal/familial relationship between Schultz and Dupont ultimately led to paranoid thoughts of betrayal and abandonment. Much like domestic abusers, Dupont hurt Schultz because he was afraid of being hurt. Except Dupont was a crazy person who thoughts Schultz was in his walls and controlling mechanical deer.

According to Mark Schultz, Daves brother, Du Point had his testicles removed around the age of thirty, he was androgynous I believe.

I think it was more loneliness and wanting to be "one of the boys" is the reason he surrounded himself with young men. he probably felt one of the team, plus I do think he was passionate about wrestling, deluded about his own ability, but had a general interest in wrestling so surrounding himself with people who share the same interests as him and want to wrestle just as much as him is Soemthing that would appeal to his character. Probably felt like he never really fit in, he was somewhat odd and socially awkward and clearly had mental health issues.

The scenes of DuPont rolling around on a mat with physically fit younger men was all I needed to see. I would not be surprised if the entire mirage was created to allow for close physical and emotional contact with young men.

reply

He strikes me as asexual.
