This Show's Main Problem Is...
There are a lot of problems with this show, but the real main problem is... the writing!
The writing is everything. It's the main key that determines what makes a TV series great. It always starts with the writing and this series lacks any of that!
The storylines doesn't have real clear direction, has horrible dialogue and lacks character development. We don't have enough information about all of the characters backstory(s) to understand why they're the way they are and their actions (in order to make us like them, root for them or at least understand them), a lot of these characters are rude to one other (for no good reason) and the way they carry on conversation(s), people don't talk like that!
The real reason that the series is the way it is, because of Tyler Perry (he's does EVERYTHING)! This is his 5th current running TV series and he writes and directs every episode on all of them! Tyler Perry has no other writers or story editors on his staff on any of his 5 series...and that's the problem! With no other writers on staff, he can't pitch or bounce around his ideas to other writers in order to help him execute his vision and make it better.
Tyler Perry is a one man show, but other big name showrunners like: Shonda Rhimes, Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, Rachel Bloom, Lena Dunham, Donald Glover, Lee Daniels, John Ridley, Ryan Murphy, Dick Wolf and David E. Kelley all have other writers on their staff!
Another problem with the show is how it's being executed, the story is moving very slow pace. In the show's timeline, only 4 or 5 days have past (I think). It's slow pace storytelling acting like a daytime soap opera (like The Young and the Restless) and it's not suppose to be like that, because daytime soap operas air their episodes 5 days a week (so they can move slowly). Past primetime soap operas wasn't this slow pace.
This show feels like a mixture of past and current shows. Playing out like a daytime soap opera (The Young and the Restless), copying the affair with the President storyline (Scandal and House of Cards) and their hometown of Happy, Alabama and it's residents feels like the town of Bon Temps, Louisiana (True Blood).
I know there's more to add, but I can't come up with any (at the moment), so continue to add-on to my comments and add your two cents and this show has a lot of bad qualities (from the acting, production, etc.), but the writing of the scripts and the dialogue is the worst of all!
