Things That Do Not Work With This Show.

1. It shouldn't be an hour. This should a 30 minute sitcom. By the midway point it really starts to drag, and the characters aren't interesting enough to justify more than 24 minutes of screentime a week.

2. The lead actress is all wrong for the part. Could they pick anyone more vanilla? She's very pretty, but other than that she does nothing to make an already annoying character more likable/relatable/interesting.

3. All of the characters are half written caricatures. The lead female is a desperate loser. The lead male is a creep. And the support cast is full of fillers.

I really agree that this should be a 30 minute show. It reminds a bit of This is Earl, just more self absorbed.

reply

Isn't the point that she is meant to be vanilla?

reply

It's the same basic Dharma & Greg formula. And she's the Greg. She is meant to be plain almost OCD and then dragged out of her comfort zone by the other.

"Are you seeing this?"
"It's just a flying saucer, Ed. We gotta go."

Basically, the entire list of TV shows can be boiled down to a few, bare-bone descriptions. How it is presented is all that matters. From time to time, we keep hearing from pastors or scientists that the world will end soon. That happened in 2011, remember? My point is, this show is handling the core idea of what you will do, if you know or believe the world is going to end.

You seem to be suggesting that being white is detrimental to her suitability for the role.

reply

All 20-something white "TV" actresses that could bring even a little spark to a role as disappointing as this one:

Lindsey Shaw
Jane Levy
Analeigh Tipton
Alia Shawkat
Emily Bett Rickards
Lyndsy Fonseca
Taissa Farmiga

To name a few.

The lead actress is just a blank board. Nothing there to differentiate her from any other 1st "actress" in an LA acting class.

reply

You had me at Lindsey Shaw. That's a good list.

Are you actually serious with this?
