Galra soldiers

Just a little question - all the Galra soldiers with full masks, who are basically treated as cannon fodder, are they partly or completely robotic? I feel like every time a Galra acts like a real person, he is wearing a half mask and won't be split in half or impaled etc onscreen. If the fully-masked Galra aren't drones of some sort... this show is actually pretty darned grisly; they die pretty spectacularly.
