3 Billboards is objectively better than this Fish Sex movie

Objectively.

And Subjectively. Not even in the same ballpark. This movie was a real eye-roller. Just shows people's lack of critical thinking. Embarrasingly bad. Credit to Set design/cinemetography, but otherwise horrible, silly, and kinda twisted.

If this was about a man in love with a pig/animal/alien and fucking it, there would be SJW's picketing theaters. Stupid on so many levels.

You would think Del Toro would work on making their romance believable at least, but he couldn't even do that. After hearing the reviews I thought this was going to be his comeback, something on the level of Pan's Labyrinth... but it's not even close. Just another disappointing movie in the string of them he has put out recently.

This is certainly a socially-affected decision, like "oh, love extends beyond all boundaries, and apparently you can even fuck animals and it's a-okay" *gag*. We live in an age where movies are given praise solely because they present some political/social message, like TLJ for instance... doesn't matter how many flaws there are. It sickens me.

And that uber goober beta roommate guy of hers was annoying as shit. Nearly fainting, always week, sobby, sappy, while our mute heroin is always strong...so strong she comes back from the dead.. Ludicrous plot.

Dunkirk is also objectively better. Actually I could probably find at least 10 films from last year that are objectively better.

The Shape of Water is actually a superhero film, just gussied up a bit and a sappy romance tacked on. As far as superhero films go, I enjoyed "Logan" far more. Maybe "Logan" should have won best picture? You might think that seems ridiculous, but that's why you should think "The Shape of Water" winning best picture is ridiculous.

reply

Logan is a masterpiece, and has more depth of characters, story, and emotion than The Shape of Water. It certainly should have won some awards... but that would make too much sense.

capeshit movie winning oscars?

reply

Far better acting in Logan than this tripe, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart were great.

Without question. No wonder viewership tanked to the worst ratings in history. The Academy is in damage control mode and are nominating anything that panders to identity politics. People are starting to find meaning in their lives outside of celebrity culture now that they've found out it was all one big gigantic circle jerk of hypocrites and vanity.
