This movie is one long cringefest...

The dialogue is some of the most awkward and unintentionally hilarious ever.

I'm not sure Angie Thomas ever interacted with a white person before she wrote this. Or maybe Audrey Welles lived the most sheltered life imaginable. No one could ever possibly be so lame to say the things they did. It doesn't surprise that progressive lefty film critics praise it tho. They are obligated.

Pretty much her entire interaction with her white best friend and boyfriend was over the top

He's a scrawny beta pussy that looks like David Hogg and says things like I'm colored on the inside. HA. And her ugly white friend who says things like "Pretend it's fried chicken" or talks "our people" and so on. Too funny.

And I'm sorry, but the total outrage over the shooting was absurd. I don't care who you are, you get pulled over by the cops, especially at night and told to keep your hands on the hood while he runs your license, then reach in the car and grab something, you are is getting chalked.

This post is on POINT. I am appalled at the praise of this movie, as well as embarrassed for these 'critics'. There is no excuse to not see its serious downfalls even if you are the most clueless 'woke' 'progressive' on Earth. These pebble-brained critics praise every and any movie with a fcking 'woo is me poor black' theme. This is all the evidence I need.

The dialogue of the white friend was so shockingly stupid and unbelievable. THIS is the fake reality that these people live in, and that's why they are so damn irrational. Just look at their representative fiction. Evil white people who will tell their buddy whose friend was killed that they deserved it or whatever she said. The black police officer just states he discriminates and doesn't explain any further. These people just sit there and fabricate their own reality.

Agreed, with everything ya said....the very TITLE says it..

I'm not going to get into an argument about the shooting in the movie because it won't go anywhere productive, but I agree that a lot of the character interaction is silly. Why would her father who sends her to an all white school be shocked that she has a white boyfriend? Also the cops at the end show up to the scene of a fire and what was about to be a shootout. It wasn't exactly the time or place for her "When will it stop..." message. Seems like the perfect time for them to be on high alert.

I agree her interaction with Hailey was over the top and especially her quarrel with her. Hailey was trying to make peace and Star still got her super attitude and then assaulted her because Hailey didn't see the incident the same way she did. It's not like she said all black people should be shooted. Not to say it was right after her uncle just told her that even him had biases.

However, the boyfriend seemed fine to me. I mean, I Don't care physically but it seemed to be the smarter of the gang on that endless ridiculous race fight. Don't remember he said he's coloured on the Inside but rather Something like "I can see your color Inside" which followed Star's absurd speech.

And yeah, Kamil might be super nice, but you just Don't act like this when a nervous cop stops you. Did not make much sense to see him act like he was completely oblivious of how cops could be. He was acting like he did not know his own neighbourhood.

I totally disagree. I thought it was excellent and believable.
