The two films couldn't be more different.
Eggers' film is going to be like The Witch. It's going to be based in the same kind of meticulous historical research, set in 1830s Germany and exploring the actual origins of vampire folklore.
Whereas this one is a gimmicky 'remix' of the 1922 film, putting new actors into the original environments using green screens. This is headed straight to VOD for sure. I don't think the producers of the Eggers film have much to worry about in terms of competition, any more than the producers of Krampus needed to worry about the 3 or 4 other straight-to-video Krampus movies that came out that year.
