i can't believe the rating of this movie

while watching, i kept asking myself: do french people still act this way towards gay youths? or rather, do french youths still this ignorant and violent towards gays who are in the same age bracket? granted, homophobia still exists (and it does) i feel like the representation of the homophobia experienced by the lead character was too dramatic, overplayed and very violent (to the point of being cliche) in a french society. and the adults, specially the lead's father's co-workers and his teachers were textbook homophobes from 50 years and it's just really laughable to me considering how visible (not to imply that visibility means progress) gay people in french mainstream culture. if this movie was made like 10 years ago, it would make more sense to me but to see that level of homophobic violence in a country that has made same-sex marriage legal? i am perplexed.
