Why was Dee so troubled? SPOILERS

The implication being throughout was that her Father had possibly done something terrible to her to make her so troubled, when viewed from outside she comes from a seemingly good family & upbringing.

Dee asked Mum Marie at the birthday party "couldn't that be why I am what I am"?, referring to witnessing the babysitter affair (before being shut down by Walters). She later leaves the party mid-speech by Dad in dramatic form (powerful scene)..

Is this really supposed to explain Dee's mental health? Or is it left unexplained? Like some people are just f**ked up for no reason? This bothered me b/c f**ked up for no reason or witnessing dad kiss the babysitter don't cut it for a life of torment for me.

Are they trying to say the babysitter got more attention than the daughter (as in Dad was preoccupied), as I thought the affair was short term? idk.. ?

That's a good question, and the show treats it well with no trite or easy answers. Maybe living in an environment where there was no truth or reality ... she never could touch ground. This was a really amazing show.

Yeh I agree. Performances, direction, music all good. If you haven’t seen Utopia you should check that as it’s the same director/composer collab. V different to this but still v good.
