Casting of main characters when younger

Robbie and Julie were brilliant in the lead roles.

But the actors who played the younger versions of the characters did not look or sound anything like them.

While this would work perfectly well on stage for example - it weakened some of the key sequences.

I thought they did look and sound like them. I was actually quite impressed on how much the young actor looked like Robbie Coltraine.

I didn't realize it until I checked on the cast list, but the actor who played the younger Paul Finchley also played Victor on "Mr. Selfridge."

I agree, and it's why I didn't quite buy the flashback scenes. I do think, though, that to cast plausible looking and sounding younger actors who play characters that older actors are playing is very difficult, especially if the older actors are as well known, like Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane.
