This movie is the same plot as Because I Said So

Not exactly the same - but mom places ad for daughter - guy is watching from the side and comes over to talk to mom, even the fact that the daughter is a pastry chef.

It is one of the basic plot-lines, but you're right. there were a lot more similarities than there should have been.
