Sheri Was A CO?

If she was a CO why is she scared of McKenzie? She said she's scared of getting jumped off guard. Isn't being a CO the same thing, the fear of being jumped off guard, even by multiple inmates?

As a CO Sheri has access to stuff like pepper spray, backup officers, and the ability to run away. As an inmate, she's stuck. I imagine she was a CO in a pretty low-level, minimum security type situation. The worst she's probably had to deal with are some drunks.

Still, as a CO she should be trained to fight and defend herself. With that said, I think you are more on point that her only guard duties was with drunks.

It just amazes me how she goes from acting like a badass to being scared back to being a badass. The operative word here is acting because she's neither a badass nor scared. She's just an idiot.

I will say that in my experience, CO's are not trained to "fight". They are shown some minimal self-defense techniques and generally rely on backup and pepper spray or pepper balls to give them the upper hand. I can guarantee that Sheri was never trained, except in a very general or passing way, to handle herself if she was attacked with a shiv.

She has legit cause to be scared, but I bet she's one of those who feels like putting on the uniform makes her invincible or somehow "badder" than she actually is. People quit being CO's in real prisons and tough jails because they find out very quickly that neither they nor the uniform is as tough as they think.

Good point and I agree.

Sheri also said she WAS a CO, not that is currently is one. Based on the age of her daughter and the reaction to being away from her as well as he comments at the end of her time about how it proves she still "has it" to be a CO, I would guess that she might not have been a CO for at least 4-5 years, or however long since her kid was born. I don't care what kind of CO training you have, I am not going to feel confident relying on that half a decade later in a life or death situation with a crazy inmate who might have a homemade weapon.

She had actually stated that she worked in a maximum security prison. One of the times she mentioned it, I felt like she stumbled a bit calling it a "maximum prison."

1st of all the show lies,

2nd few guards are skilled in hand to hand combat.

In max levels, they rarely are one on one with an inmate who hasn't be cuffed before his cell door is opened

Most inmates go along with the program & even aa-hole gaurds, because they don't want to lose what little they have.

It wouldn't be likely to be a fair fight, 3 on 1, or attacked in her sleep, or in the shower.
