For those who complain

For people who complain about the show, you gotta look up who Joe Swanberg is. His films involve a lot of improvisations to show aspects of modern relationships. They feel dry as Joe wants to make them as ordinary and realistic as they can be. From the look of it, this show follows the same route and not intended for mass audience.

Yeah, but there still is a difference between "reakistic" and " cliche-ridden". I mean the whole married couple trying role play thing; the vegan dyke, who doesn't shave; the immature father-to-be; the girl in love who trys to pretend she is someone else in order to win her lover's heart over, etc. These are things we have seen before so often, and I don't consider most of them realistic storylines. Also, realistic shouldn't entail boring.

they are realistic, those people actually exist in hordes. people are hardcore vegans who don't shave and ride bikes everywhere, old married couples try really hard to have sex that lasts for a minute, and yeah guys are easily freaked out by the idea of having kids(weird).

This show is boring and I get that but it's boring in the same way life is boring, people talk around having threesomes, people try and pretend to be more into what their boyfriend/girlfriend is into but eventually fail, married couples try role playing to spice things up and work/kids keep getting in the way.

not to say they aren't cliches but the way they are done in this show, even the cliche characters I hate hipster artist or sallow chick trying to fake being into *beep* she isn't into, I still like those episode cause they still feel realistic. like I hate the hipster artist characters for being hipsters and not being a over acted cliche of a hipster artist.

I will agree, that the portrayals; for the most part, were realistic. Maybe too realistic? Since it seemed so bland.

I couldn't get invested in these characters, or feel much for them either negative or positive... For a series essentially about love, there seemed little 'heart' to it.

I also wasn't entertained at all. I found it boring as far as basic entertainment value.

I do think maybe it took itself too seriously, and went into that pretentious 'we're trying to make a point, while taking ourselves way too seriously, but we won't tell you what that point is, but if you think you can guess - you're probably wrong!' which I guarantee once the hipsters view it, and it gets more publicity, evasive dialogue like that is sure to flood this forum. 

ETA: Oops, I think it has started already looking at the 'Why all the Hate' thread. lmao. 

Exactly, these are tropes we've seen play out on TV Screens and Film (and Yes, even in real life) time and time again. Did we really need to see it rehashed, repeated here with these unrelatable characters that gave you no reason to like them, let alone empathize with?

That doesn't make it good. It just explains the style. Honestly, they aren't acting that realistic. Everyone is to subdued and lacking in life. The show just isn't good.

Yeah, I guess I just don't 'get it.' Too much to process. This show is for the scholars to sort out.

I just know that to get something so normal is actually difficult to pull off. normal does not mean boring though. this is in no way boring. boring is when shows try too hard to be over the top with crazy plot twists. i liked this show give or take a few episodes. i didnt know who joe swanberg was but when u said this, it totally summed up how this normalcy was achieved.
