Liked the show but...

not the actor who played "the Man-ny" or that particular sublot. The rest of the show and the cast was great, though (especially the actress who played "Kate").

I totally agree with you. I thought this character was obnoxious and the actor was not good which made it kind of ironic that he was playing some little tv actor who thought he was a better thespian than the material he had to work with.

reply

The only character I didn't like was the big guy who took Kate on a date. His personality just rubbed me the wrong way. I think maybe he was trying too hard to be the "funny fat guy" and it felt forced.

.

reply

I agree. The self deprecating fat jokes are old and unfunny now. Just made him more pathetic.

reply

I did not understand his whole temper tantrum on set. Yes, the suitcase is fake, the baby is fake...it's a TV SHOW, you're an actor.

Dexter: I would give everything to feel nothing again.

He was clearly in the midst of a mental breakdown. People aren't exactly at their most rational when they're doing badly mentally

I think the actor, Kevin, would like to be doing a show with some emotional honesty instead of a caricature who walks around without a shirt and always has to respond with a laugh line.

The writer gave Kevin one scene to patronize him but then asked him to play the "lighter" version -- of explaining the dysfunction with his own father -- with his shirt off. Kevin knew that the braindead one was what would be cut into the show that aired. And we're supposed to get the feeling that it's an ongoing conflict over the run of the show.

So, he hit his breaking point and flipped.

Justin Hartley, and he's one of the main reasons I'm watching! I love him!

I loved everybody. I thought it was a great pilot.

reply

I totally agree. Justin Hartley is the main reason I'm watching. He was spot on with his breakdown. He portrayed and acted that way because that's how "This is Us" wanted him to act. He's playing a character not himself. I loved Parenthood and that was another reason why I was drawn to this show. After the twist at the end, I'm excited to see the next episode.

reply

I was ok with it. It was predictable but fairly enjoyable. I'm interesting to see if they take it anywhere interesting. I did really enjoy when the date took up the camera and he automatically made a charming camera smile and pose, almost involuntarily. It looked so funny. :D

There is no such thing as too much time

reply

Yeah, that was great! I got a good chuckle out of it.

reply

Sorry I disagree I love Justin, he's the main reason I'm watching!!

The scene with the two chicks was kinda awkward, talking about his birthday and the Challenger explosion- instant mood killer. But the onset meltdown, after the Alan Thicke scene, made up for that.

Why do they give out letter jackets to marching band? It's not a sport! We all know it!

reply

Justin Hartley is a good actor. I liked how he stood up for himself that he did not want to be the plain stupid "shirtless" guy anymore.
